"MIND MODELS"_ Exhibition (2010)

Something's Happening Inside, 2010
Various plants, neon, plexiglass, 60 x 60 x 60 cm
"Organic growth processes, the alteration of forms with times and abstract images constitute the common elements in Sibel Diker's works. (...) the plants carefully brought together by a passionate gardener offer the spectator an atmosphere that is hard to describe at first glance. As Diker "stages" this puzzle within a conceptual framework, however, the "cube" does not draw attention as the basic form of the statues. And yet it is at this very point we see the artist engage in "fines details" as if weaving a Hereke carpet, by making references to art history. Diker brings up Manzoni's statue entitled "Le socle du monde" (1961) and the structuralist and geometric language of form employed by Minimalist Art, and thereby offers the spectator a simple work that nonetheless becomes more profound and multi-layered as one thinks about it."

"CLASSIC"_ Exhibition (2009)

Babel Or A Lost Cause, 2009
Sugar, neon, plexiglass, paper, 60 x 60 x 60 cm

This installation represents the ascension of Babel Tower with an eatable and breakable material which is sugar.
Sugar gives to this pretentous symbol a ludicrous dimension.

A WAY TO ESCAPE (2009)

A Way To Escape, 2009
Ball-point pen, various sizes

I draw fingers which are separeted of their bodies. At first, I draw them with black ball-point pen on A4 paper and then I enlarge them via a printing machine. Strangely, fine lines of the drawings seem to be porous. Paradoxically, my drawings look much more handcrafted after using a machine.

COMMENT J'AI RACONTE UN ROMAN SUR UNE SALADE_ Solo exhibition (2008)

Experiment n°1 (sponge and yogurt), 2008
Installation in situ/ Sponge, yogurt, wood, 1 m x 1 m x 1 m

An imposing square sponge soaked with yogurt.
This precarious installation quickly undergoes the effects of time and of the weather conditions. With the assistance of the released element which is the yogurt, the sponge becomes the absorbing matter and the place of reception for new micro-organisms during the exhibition and in connection with the vegetation which already has its place in the garden. The installation reacts independently of my will, as in a laboratory experiment.

Experiment n°2 (soap), 2008
Installation in situ/ Soap, aluminium, wood, 1,20 x 60 cm

This work is in echo with Experiment n°1 because this work is also subjected to the sands of time with a perishable material. The installation exists thanks to the soap but it is correspondingly and paradoxically subjected to the perishing of its substance. What realizes it materially is also endangering its life span.

Temporary Disturbance, 2008
Installation in situ/ Polypropylene rope, various sizes

Untitled, 2008
Installation/ Pearl buttons, wood, plastic, 50 cm x 40 cm

FESTIVAL INSTANTS VIDEO_ Video festival (2007)

Anne-anne
, 2007
Video, 1 stereo tape, no soundtrack (loop)

My mother and my grandmother's eyes.
My mother is looking staring at the lens of the camera. The second eye -my grandmother's eye- disturbs slowly this quiet observation. The frame's superpositions give to this video an organic texture. Then, a silent dialogue between those eyes seems to begin.

"Anneanne" ve "Pneuma" have been shown in november 29, 2007 at the 20th Instants Video Festival in Marseille

TURN ON THE LIGHT SHE SAID_ Exhibition (2007)

Home Sweet Home, 2007
Sugar, neon, 1,20 m x 20 cm

A sugar wall.
I choose to work the concept of defence via a daily, perishable and active material. Built on an elementary system of balance, this "fortification" is in contradiction with the representation of security.

4TH INTERNATIONAL TRIENNAL OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MARMARA_ Exhibition (2006)

View From My Window, 2006
Video, 1 stereo tape, 6'03'' (loop)

Several landscapes of Istanbul and Paris follow one other and create an endless back-and-forth between the two cities. And then, a numerical "zoom in" disturbs this linear contemplation. The spectator catches a deceleration and a pause while the machine continues the digital zoming process. At this point, the humain eye and the lens of the camera are confronted. Ocular and perception's difficulties remind us that the story might be outside of the projection. The perception of the spectator and the restricted capacities of the machine confront each other on the surface of the clouds which became indistinguishable under the pixels.

BLACK SEA (2006)

Black Sea, 2006
Video installation/ 3 video projectors, 1 TV monitor, 2 stereo tapes (loop)

Composed of three video projections and a TV monitor, this installation creates a panoramic landscape through the fragmentations of various points of view. The constancy of the images, as well as the absence of human being, put the viewer in a contemplative exercice and in a physical displacement within the installation. In this video projection, the approach of the landscape imply -as in the European and Asian history of art- the notions of ascencion and of motion. The monitor is distinguished from the projections by its small size but more especially by its soundtrack which refers to a brutal reality -of engines boats around- and finally, by the movement of the camera which, in a subjective way, films a displacement in loop along the stone wall of the port. Here the TV monitor's subject is, in opposition to the video projections, clearly about walking.

KEEP TOGETHER_ Exhibition (2005)

Istiklal Caddesi Or Independent Avenue, 2005
Video, 1 stereo tape, (loop)

Composed of one sequence shot, this video shows the ceaseless flow of the passerbies on Istiklal Caddesi -Independence Avenue- through a window. Then, the video creates, with the superpositions of various plans which belong to the same sequence, the feeling of "a visual swinging".

WAITING FOR_ Exhibition (2005)

Crimea, 2005
Video, 1 stereo tape, 6'42'' (loop)

A woman -quasy ghostly- saunders continuously as a tightrope walker on the roof of a bilding and stops regulary to look around. The search of heigh and loneliness, out of and in front of the society, gives her a better observation of the world. The choreography of her displacement and her isolation refer to a circulation in a labyrinth. This video, close to German Romantic period, is based on the topics of walking and contemplation.
