“My videos generally take place in spaces with a dominantly hybrid structure within the framework of urban transformation. Concepts of promenade, displacement and non-place are at the center of my video works which emphasize the aesthetic codes of cinema and are dominated by minimalist narrative. My point of departure has been Istanbul’s constantly shifting architectural texture, countless activities of do-undo constructions and understanding of urbanization. I use the imagery of city and construction to criticize the contemporary notion of development. While urban landscapes cease to be merely decorative and become the main characters of the video through the combination of the video format and the cinema aesthetic during montage, I question how the boundaries of vision and illusion are distorted by various effects”.
